Steve Groff and his Maui R/C flyers are most gracious hosts! That's first. Setup yesterday, without a hitch; field makes beautiful F-5B site. Some antenna covers that looked like pylons perfect for pilot bore sighting course; painting circles on the salvaged carpet nice enticement to hit the 30 point center instead of the asphalt runway.
Contest Day -1, aka practice day. Hot Hot Hot! winds light and variable, Temps 90+ and humidity up there; hey it's the tropics! Started final setup at 0800, US Pilots arrived at 0900 and got some test flights in; Japanese pilots arrived a bit later in the day. All got some nice test flights in, last measured flight of the day : Kaz Ogawa of Japan achieved 54 legs! Yeah, read it again 54 : that's 8 sixes, a 4 and a 2 . Flight a thing of beauty from both base judges. Nice Hotdog Lunch from SG and his crew, good stuff! New telemetry equipment getting heat tested; so far mixed results. Our lovely local sign worked for about one flight before cooking; still working on that. Now for some Mai-Tais and dinner. Tomorrow we start counting the scores!
Cheers,
